Los Angeles Illustrated: Javi Aznarez and The Studio

A City Through Characters

When Apple TV+ released The Studio, Los Angeles appeared as both playground and obstacle course. The show’s creators, Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, made sure the city felt like a character itself — wild, ambitious, and always in traffic.

The Los Angeles Times feature “The Studio Guide to Los Angeles,” illustrated by Javi Aznarez, highlighted that dual role.

His work framed the eccentric habits of Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Hahn, Catherine O’Hara, and Rogen’s characters, each navigating the city with their own rituals: IV drips in the office, colonic appointments, salads at power lunches, and grudges with the San Vicente Bungalows.

Javi Aznarez’s Illustration

Javi Aznarez illustrated the spread with his signature blend of sharp line and wry humor. His drawing captured Los Angeles as both polished and frazzled, a backdrop of palm trees, neon, and too many valet stands. The actors’ fictional city haunts — the ArcLight, Musso & Frank, Dan Tana’s — gained another layer when drawn by his hand. Aznarez’s style always feels cinematic, which suited a show obsessed with Hollywood itself.

The Studio (Netflix) Playlist on Spotify

Alongside the illustrated guide is a companion playlist: Netflix’s The Studio soundtrack, available on Spotify. It mirrors the rhythms of the series — a mix of classic cuts and ironic needle-drops that carry the satire of ambition and burnout into music.

The playlist has become a way for audiences to stay inside the show’s Los Angeles, even when stuck in their own commutes.
