The Wing is home to BIF’s main exhibitor marketplace, with stalls selling prints, zines, illustrated books, comics, ceramics and other independently produced work. Workshops will also run here throughout the weekend.

Visitors should begin at The Wing to register and collect their festival wristbands.

What Is Brighton Illustration Festival?

Brighton Illustration Festival, commonly known as BIF, returns on 31 October and 1 November 2026 for a weekend celebrating contemporary illustration in all its strange, colourful and scribbly forms.

Nearly 2,000 visitors attended the festival in 2025, meeting illustrators and invited guests across a packed weekend of prints, zines, comics, books, ceramics, talks, screenings and workshops.

BIF 2026 builds on that successful return with more artists, more things to see and more opportunities to participate.

It brings established names together with emerging talent and first-time exhibitors, creating an accessible meeting place for professional illustrators, collectors, families, students and anyone curious about visual storytelling. Over 120 + Exhibitors, Talks, Workshops & more…

Visitors can browse the marketplace, buy work directly from its creators, listen to artists discuss their practice or take part in practical sessions.

Whether arriving with a carefully planned schedule or simply coming for a wander, the festival offers plenty of opportunities to discover a new favourite artist.

Clara Super Duper Joins BIF 2026 as Exhibitor 06

French illustrator Clara Dupré, better known as Clara Super Duper, joins Brighton Illustration Festival 2026 as Exhibitor 06.

Clara works from her farm in southwest France, where she shares a peaceful rural life with her partner, dog and chickens. From there, she creates a colourful and considerably less predictable illustrated world populated by eccentric characters, crocodiles, cowboy boots and playful visual jokes.

Her work combines bright colour, bold texture and spontaneous-looking forms with a sharp understanding of character. The results feel warm, funny and immediately recognisable, often turning familiar situations into something slightly strange.

Clara works across editorial illustration, publishing, animation, posters, prints and independent products. BIF offers visitors the opportunity to see this work away from the screen, meet Clara and explore the illustrated objects and editions she produces through her independent practice.

    Sam Taylor and Kyle Platts help visitors create their own original bumper stickers.

  • Dr Dog: Storytelling and Mask-Making with Jiro Bevis
    Time: 10.30–11am
    Place: Wagner Hall
    Jiro Bevis and Do Re Mi Books present a reading and Halloween mask-making activity inspired by Dr Dog. Suitable for ages three and over.

  • Ghosts, Ghouls and Goblins with Cat Johnston
    Time: 10.30am–1.30pm
    Place: The Wing at The Brighton Centre
    Director, illustrator and puppet maker Cat Johnston leads a drop-in paper mask workshop inspired by fantastical characters.

  • The Wonderful Pocket Family Workshop with Kazuko Matt
    Time: 11–11.30am

    Kazuko Matt and Do Re Mi Books combine a reading from The Wonderful Pocket Family with a creative pocket-decorating activity. Suitable for children of all ages.

  • Windows: Puppet-Making Workshop with Thomas Hedger

    Thomas Hedger reads from Windows before helping children make paper puppets and window-shaped dioramas.

  • From Tumblr to Netflix: Adapting Webcomics to the Screen with Hamish Steele

    Hamish Steele discusses the journey from the DeadEndia graphic novels to the Netflix animated series Dead End: Paranormal Park.

  • Positive Signs with Sandw1tch Shop

    Katie of Sandw1tch Shop invites visitors to create hand-drawn placards celebrating the music, food, films, people and places they love.

  • Live Draw Live: YUK FUN vs 2B
    Time: 4.15–5pm
    Place: Wagner Hall
    Patrick Gildersleeves of YUK FUN and Elsa Hingley-Knight of 2B Or Not 2B compete to complete live illustration requests from the audience.

  • Mullets, Quiffs and Other Quirky Haircuts with Nick Sharratt
    Time: 10.30–11.45am
    Place: Wagner Hall
    Author and illustrator Nick Sharratt presents his picture book Mullets alongside drawing, games and characters from books including Shark in the Park and You Choose. A book signing follows the event. Suitable for ages three and over.

  • Stuffed Little Gnomes with Yujinia Wang
    Time: 10.30am–1pm
    Place: The Wing at The Brighton Centre
    Yujinia Wang leads a workshop using painted fabric, paper, stitching and collage to create small stuffed forest characters.

  • Nine Wonky Projects with Steve Xoh
    Time: 12.15–1pm
    Place: Wagner Hall
    Steve Xoh shares stories from nine experimental art projects, with a bingo machine deciding which projects he discusses.

  • Nostalgia, Ultra with Alex May Hughes
    Time: 1.30–2.15pm
    Place: Wagner Hall
    Sign painter and glass gilder Alex May Hughes discusses nostalgia as personal identity, creative inspiration and commercial commodity.

  • Worlds & Characters with Stella Murphy
    Time: 1.30–4pm
    Place: The Wing at The Brighton Centre
    Cartoonist and artist Stella Murphy leads a workshop exploring characterisation, visual storytelling and imaginary world-building.

Why Are Independent Illustration Festivals Important?

Illustration is often encountered after it has been reproduced in a book, magazine, advertisement or digital campaign. BIF allows audiences to meet the people behind those images and see the wider creative practices from which commercial work develops.

The marketplace includes original drawings, experimental publications, self-produced prints and unusual illustrated objects that may never reach mainstream shops.
