David Benioff : Book cover illustrations by SHOUT

Alessandro Gottardo, known as SHOUT, created the cover illustrations for two David Benioff titles published by Penguin Random House: The 25th Hour and When the Nines Roll Over.

The work forms part of a wider effort to present David’s books in a coordinated set across the catalogue. The covers give the publisher a consistent structure for two titles written at different points in the author’s career.

The 25th Hour traces a single day in the life of Monty Brogan, who is hours away from beginning his prison sentence. His two closest friends, Frank and Jakob, move through their own routines as the day unfolds.

When the Nines Roll Over gathers eight short stories. Each story deals with choices made under pressure at work or at home. The collection sits alongside The 25th Hour in the new editions and helps define a compact record of David’s early output.

The covers sit under the direction of Paul Buckley and the Penguin Art Group. Greg Mollica art directs the related edition of City of Thieves. Together these titles create a group with a single visual plan, making it easier for readers to identify the author’s work in stores and online.

The project shows how a clear design framework helps connect separate books without changing their editorial content. The focus remains on presenting the author’s work in a structured and accessible way.
